What is the solution? How can you help your child if another kid bullies them? Do bullies behave in this way for any particular reason? There are a lot of layers to this serious problem and this dad has done something commendable that will make you rethink your approach, not everything in the world is black or white.
Aubrey Fontenot deserves the title Father Of The Year.
Aubrey Fontenot, a father of three adorable kids from Texas recently faced a dilemma. His 8-year old son, Jordan was a victim of bullying and the school staff did not look into the matter. The sad reality is that bullying is often considered a personal issue and not a social issue, which is why parents have to take charge of the situation.
The most impulsive and immature reaction to the situation would be Fontenot going to his son’s school and picking up a fight with either the bully or the school authorities. This approach will scar his own child and in the end, offer no solution to the problem. Instead, he had a good conversation with Tamarion, his son’s bully. After Fontenot made the boy comfortable, he shared the sad story of his past, he himself was a victim of bullying.
A heartwarming story
The poor homeless kid was bullied for not having clean clothes and for his family background. This is when Fontenot spoke to both the kids and also got Tamarion some brand new clothes. The kids forgot all their differences and played video games together! This heartwarming story was posted on Twitter and was reblogged a number of times. The father knew he had to extend his help and created a Go-Fund-Me campaign for Tamarion which collected $24,210 in 4 days.
How to react at a bully
According to psychology, “Bullying is a physical or verbal abuse that occurs repeatedly and involves a power imbalance. In other words, it’s one person, using social power, or physical strength, to dominate another in a way that really makes the target miserable.”
Little deeds of kindness and meaningful heart-to-heart conversations can do miracles as opposed to use of physical force. The bullies are often victims themselves and they just need to channelize their bitter feelings.
If you are an adult who can help the mal-adjusted kids, then please do. For they just need a little love, care and understanding. If you do not put an end to their behaviour at an early age, it will become their habit and possibly ruin the lives of others.
